Baltic Pipe's receiving terminal in Western Jutland will be further delayed
Technical challenges mean that commissioning of the terminal in Nybro near Varde must be postponed. However, this will have no impact on the gas volumes sent to Poland.
Baltic Pipe's receiving terminal in Nybro near Varde will be delayed. The receiving terminal for gas from the Norwegian gas pipeline Europipe II should have been commissioned on Saturday, October 8, but it has now been postponed to October 20, 2022.
The delay is among other things due to challenges with the control systems.
"The technical challenges on the complex plant mean that we cannot go into operation in Nybro as planned. We notified the gas market of this today, Friday. We are working hard to solve the problems, and fortunately we have good cooperation with our contractors on site," says Torben Brabo, Energinet's Director of International Relations.
The delay means that gas from Europipe II cannot flow into Baltic Pipe via Nybro until October 20. This will not affect the volume of gas to Poland. As planned, Baltic Pipe was commissioned with partial capacity on Saturday, October1 – at 6:10 am – and since then Poland has been supplied with gas through the new gas pipeline.
Full commissioning at the end of November
The volume of gas to Poland will be continuously increased until full commissioning at the end of November. As previously announced, commissioning at full capacity – up to 10 billion cubic metres of gas per year – can take place before originally planned because the work of laying the last pipelines in the ground in East Jutland and in West Funen has progressed faster than expected. In this case, the work had to be at standstill for a long period of time due to lack of an environmental permit.
Thus, the very last weld on the underground gas pipeline section was carried out this week.
