Nordic Perspectives on the Mid Term Adequacy Forecast Report

The four Nordic TSOs Energinet, Fingrid, Statnett and Svenska kraftnät have presented the Nordic Perspectives on the ENTSO-E Mid-term adequacy forecast (MAF) of 2017.

Nordic perspectives focus on sensitivities especially relevant for the Nordic TSOs, and include developments in thermal capacity, Russian exchange, weather patterns, location of wind and grid constraints.

The MAF results show the expected development of the adequacy situation in the Nordic countries, and notes that the expected adequacy assessments differ between the Nordic countries, with eastern Denmark, southern Sweden and Finland being the areas showing some risk of adequacy issues in certain situations.

Overall results from the Nordic perspectives are broadly in line with the conclusions from MAF 2017 for the Nordic area except for Finland where our calculations show a considerably smaller risk for inadequacy. The base case also confirms that there is not a strong indication for a need for concern in the Nordic areas, if the power system develops in line with national projections.
