Summary
For Energinet 2017 was a significant milestone for the installation of energy connections to other countries. The ongoing projects Kriegers Flak and COBRAcable both came one step closer to commissioning, and after years of complicated negotiations and investigations, it was possible to make the Viking Link and Baltic Pipe projects almost ready for final investment decisions.
But physical infrastructures are not enough, as we travel towards becoming independent of fossil energy sources. Innovative initiatives, new business models and digitization are key words when the road to safe and sustainable energy, which is also a good business for Danish society, must be found.
Energy revenue was DKK 5 billion in 2017, and the profit for the year after tax was DKK -228 million, which is not satisfactory. The primary reason for this year’s negative results is that the value of the gas storage assets was written down by DKK 320 million after tax.
Energinet is a non-profit enterprise and is based on a break-even principle, which means that income and expenses must balance over a number of years.
