The long-term development plan for 2024 (LUP24) offers transparency in relation to Energinet’s expectations for future investments. These expectations include more than 500 expansion projects on the electricity and gas systems towards 2050 – and the possible establishment of a Danish hydrogen infrastructure. LUP24 is thus an important foundation for the close dialogue with energy system stakeholders that is vital in order for Energinet to make plans on the most informed and thorough basis possible.
LUP24 is based on needs analyses and potential electricity, gas and hydrogen solutions. The needs analyses identify future needs for new infrastructure or adaptations to existing infrastructure. The solution catalogue identifies potential solutions that can help address future needs, such as operational and market solutions that can help minimise the need for expansion. LUP24 also contains a description of the long-term power grid structure, and thus predicts the electricity transmission grid required for Denmark to have a stable power grid in 2050 given current trends.
The long-term development plan is published every two years, and LUP24 is the second of its kind.
