What is the purpose of DataHub?
The purpose of DataHub is to ensure uniform communication methods and standardized processes for professional participants in the electricity market in order to stimulate competition and optimize market conditions for electricity consumers.
What does DataHub do?
Every piece of information about the electricity consumption of Danish consumers is stored in DataHub, which also handles business processes, such as change of address, change of supplier etc.
DataHub has the capacity to process metered data and business processes for all 3.3 million Danish electricity consumers. For instance, when grid operators submit readings for a metering point to DataHub, it transfers the information to the applicable electricity supplier, who is then able to bill the consumer.
Who are the DataHub users?
DataHub primarily serves market players in the Danish electricity market, who use DataHub to communicate with each other about the electricity consumption of Danish consumers and to make sure that they have all the information necessary to bill their customers.
Market players communicate with DataHub either through their own IT systems or through the DataHub Market Portal, a web-based access point to DataHub.
Danish consumers have access to their own data through the webpage of their electricity supplier or eloverblik.dk, a web page.
When was DataHub upgraded?
On 1 April 2016, Energinet upgraded DataHub to include the so-called Supplier-centric Model, which changed the rules and the roles of market players in the Danish electricity market. Consequently, it is now the electricity supplier who is responsible for all customer communication – including billing – which ensures that the electricity customer only receives one single invoice
The electricity supplier then settles funds received from the customers for electricity transport charges, electricity tax and the PSO tariff (Public Service Obligation financing subsidies for renewable energy production and development) with the grid operators and Energinet. In turn, the grid operators pass on the consumers’ electricity tax and PSO tariff payments to the Danish tax authorities.
DataHub is the technical prerequisite for the supplier-centric model - the market design introduced in the Danish electricity retail market in April, 2016.
