Contract on the supply of platforms for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm

An important step has been taken towards the realisation of the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.
A contract has been made with Hollandia Offshore on the supply of the offshore platforms which are to be established at the future Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.
The offshore wind turbines at Kriegers Flak will be able to generate enough climate-friendly electricity to supply 600,000 households. At the same time, Energinet.dk and the German TSO 50Hertz Transmission GmbH will connect Kriegers Flak with the German Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, thereby creating the first offshore power grid in the world to combine wind power installations with the possibility of exchanging electricity between two countries.
Three platforms will be installed at Kriegers Flak, and the contract with Hollandia Offshore concerns the so-called topsides, i.e. the parts of the platforms visible above water.
The two largest platforms will collect the electricity generated by the future off-shore wind farm and bring it ashore in Denmark. They have a capacity of 200 MW and 400 MW, respectively. The third platform will connect the Danish 220 kV electricity system with the German 150 kV electricity system and thus establish an interconnector between the two countries.
The price of the two landing platforms is approx. EUR 43 million, while the price of the platform connecting the two electricity systems is approx. EUR 8 million. Under the contract, the delivery of all three platforms is scheduled for April 2018.
European Commission has appointed Kriegers Flak – Combined Grid Solution as a Project of Common Interest (PCI). This indicates that the interconnection is of particular importance to the development of a common European electricity market. The EU project is funded with up to EUR 150 million from the European Energy Programme for Recovery.
