Foundation for the Interconnector Combined Grid Solution - Kriegers Flak on its way to Danmark

A barge carrying two gravity based foundations (GBFs) for the offshore substations of the Danish 605MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm has left the port of Ostende, Belgium. One platform will be used for the Interconnector Combined Grid Solution.

On January 15th, the heavy lift vessel is planned to arrive in Denmark and it is expected to install the first foundation by the end of the month, and the second a couple of weeks later, weather permitting. The barge will wait near the site for the right weather conditions for placing the foundations on the seabed. At the location at Kriegers Flak the barge will submerge, and the entire barge will sink several meters. Then, the huge foundations will float and can be pulled off the barge and lowered onto the seabed by controlled filling with water.
