How we calculate our fees

Price policy

The methods Energinet applies in calculating the transportation charges and fees are subject to approval by the Danish Utility Regulator (DUR) and reflect the “revenue cap regulation”-regime. Any discrepancy between Energinet's annual revenue and expenses results as a point of departure in an adjustment of the fees and charges for the following year.

Energinet adheres to the same rules and regulations that apply to all EU Transmission System Operators, which supports and stimulates cross-border competition in the gas market.

Capacity reservations and shipped volumes

Energinet’s transportation charges reflect Energinet’s projection of expected future capacity reservations and shipped volumes, based on data from the previous “gas year”.  The transportation charges follow the normal calendar year from January 1 to December 31, while the emergency tariffs run from October 1 to September 30.

Uniform Charge

To help increase transparency and predictability in our tariff policy – and consumer awareness of the relationship between Energinet’s underlying costs and the tariffs we charge – our transportation fee is based on a uniform capacity charge. The uniform capacity charge has been in effect since October 1, 2022.

Capacity Charge

The capacity charge is a reservation fee for a shipper’s “right to use” Energinet’s gas transmission system capacity, irrespective of the actual gas volume transported through our system.

The capacity charge covers 100% of Energinet’s annual cost base.
