ON THE DE-D2 AND D2-DE BORDERS, NO CAPACITY WILL BE OFFERED IN THE MONTHLY AUCTION FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

On the KONTEK connection1, forming the border between DE and DK-2, two oil-leaking sockets were detected in the German land cable section in the middle of July.

For technical and environmental safety reasons, these sockets need to be repaired as soon as possible. In preparation for these works, at the end of July and at the beginning of August, the KONTEK connection had to be, and was switched off a number of times. And further switch offs will be necessary in the coming weeks in order to assess the exact scope of the necessary repair works.

Upon finalisation of that assessment, the exact timing of the repair works, at present anticipated to be in September and/or October, will be decided and subsequently announced to the market.

That given, offering monthly capacities on the DE-D2 and/or D2-DE borders in the monthly auction for September 2017 would mean that Energinet and 50Hertz would most likely have to curtail these capacities to allow for the necessary switching. Such curtailments are not in the interest of neither the market participants nor Energinet and 50Hertz, and therefore, Energinet and 50 Hertz have decided to offer nil capacities on the DE-D2 and/or D2-DE borders in the monthly auction for September 2017. Instead, all capacities, remaining on these borders unused after the nomination deadline for the physical transmission rights allocated on the DE-D2 and D2-DE borders in the Yearly Auction for 2017, will be made available to the market on a daily basis.
